Just be kind
I have just recently returned from a much needed vacay which is something we all need from time to time. This year was more a need to get away from the constant barrage of COVID, political and the social unrest news, all of which is thrusted at us like rubber bullets. It seems no one is capable of expressing their views, on either side, without berating the other side. Everyone has a right to their opinions and the right to disagree but we can do so without the hate. One of the great things about our country is the freedom to have and practice our own beliefs but can we please do it with respect for each other. There should be no matter which side you are on we can still be kind to one another. I do firmly believe that once you find peace within yourself it is easier to express peace out into the world.
So now more than ever we all need to find an outlet for our stress, frustration and anxiety. This may be very different from person to person. Physical activity is always a great outlet whether it is a structured program at the gym, youtube or Facebook videos, going for a walk or run anything that gets you moving. You can also try reading a book or magazine without the TV on, a hobby of woodworking, scrapbooking, knitting, etc. One of the things I like to do when I am just looking to free my mind is coloring, you can buy adult coloring books which are fairly inexpensive and colored pencils or pens. All of these things can be very therapeutic.
Keep in mind our young people our also experiencing the stress and anxiety and they are watching you, so it is important to check in with them. Make sure we answer any questions or concerns and possibly limit how much time they spend on the computer, social media or news outlets. There is so much negativity out there and it is easy for young people to get caught up and confused.
Let me wrap up my rant with one assignment go outside, get some fresh air, leave electronics behind and just be. Observe the beautiful sunset, the fall foliage or flowers, neighbors outside decorations all of your surroundings.
The picture below is a display in a neighbors landscaping that went up a little at a time and it brings a smile to my face each time I walk past. You cannot really tell in the picture but that is yellow tile leading to the Emerald City (green glassware) and of course the tin man.
