Are you wishing your life away???
How many times have you said, 'I wish it was Friday', 'Is it the weekend yet', 'I can't wait till summer vacation' 'cannot wait until retirement'. We are always looking for what is next, when we really need to enjoy what is now. My mother once shared some wise advice 'Don't wish your life away.' She is an amazing, inspiring woman with a wonderful outlook on life. I will admit sometimes I too need to remind myself to stop and look around.
You will have times you experience interesting, fun, laugh out loud events unexpectedly. There are times when your plans do not go as expected and rather than get frustrated embrace them, you may discover something new and exciting that will leave you wondering...'how did I not know about this before?'
When my friend and I take trips whether it is for the day or an extended vacation it is not unusual for us to stray from our original plan. We look at it as an adventure and embrace whatever we discover or happens. Sometimes it is a learning experience to not do that again and there are times, more often than not, we discover something wonderful that we were unaware of but so happy we discovered. Perfect example in 2019 we took a trip to The Grand Canyon which started in Sedona. On our drive from Sedona we saw signs for Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, 'What?' so we thought let's check it out. After a short hike we thought 'it's early let's go to the Petrified Forest', which is a pretty cool place. Unfortunately once we arrived and checked out the visitor center and drove the 28 miles through the park, we did not really have time to take a hike but we did enjoy some of the pull offs and views. The drive time from Sedona to the Petrified Forest was 2 1/2 hours not including our touring time, we than had another 3 hours from there to our destination, Tusayan AZ, outside The Grand Canyon NP. We more than doubled our driving time to the Grand Canyon but I would not have changed a minute of it. We enjoyed some amazing views, saw some sights we enjoyed that we would have totally missed and fun times in the car, singing and laughing. We did call the hotel around 10:30 pm to let them know we are coming, please don't give away our room but we will be VERY late. Below are just two of the cool sites we would have missed.
Wigwam Motel, Holbrook AZ on Route 66
We are all ready for 2021 and what we hope will be a fresh start. Keep in mind to enjoy the experiences of the here and now, they may not be the experiences you were planning but this will certainly be a memorable and possibly a great year of reflection.
Take a drive keep, you eyes up and away from your phone you never know when you may see the World's Tallest Thermometer. Think I'm kidding, go ahead google it.
