Ahh social media, what can I say, for those who know me well they also know I am not a fan of social media. I know the platforms have the best intentions of helping us connect to either family or friends far away, local small businesses, connecting with like minded people, etc. Somewhere along the way though it has become a sorry source of misinformation, FOMO (fear of missing out), beliefs, body, culture or whatever we can think of Shaming and bullying. It is amazing how bold individuals can be when they are addressing someone via social medial versus in person or (IRL). When I was young one of the many things I learned from my mother is ‘if you have nothing nice to say it is best to say nothing at all.’ I wish this was practiced more on these platforms, stop using them to tear each other down and use them to uplift and support each other.
Unfortunately like you have joined a social media platform for the mere reason to stay connected with the various gyms at which I teach to be aware of any schedule changes or upcoming events. I have also found 2 like minded groups that I follow. I do realize it is a great way for small privately operated businesses to reach the masses and I understand that advantage.
Be good to yourself and unfriend or stop following those that are a source of negativity, bullying or just cause you to feel your life is inadequate. Keep in mind what you see on social media is a small and the best part of those individuals lives to which you envy.
Oh one more thing, turn off your social media notifications to ease that anxiety or FOMO, you do not need to that tied to these outlets.
Enough about that for now put down your device, take a seat, close your eyes and take 5 slow, deep breaths. Allow your body to relax with each exhale. Till next time.
