What if?? this year we decide to love and take care of ourselves more rather than 'trying to change ourselves'. New Year's resolutions are almost always focusing on changing something to make ourselves or our lives better. Consider a resolution that allows you to love yourself as you are and resolve to show yourself the love and kindness you deserve. Treat yourself the same as you would treat a loved one. This does not mean you should not resolve to exercise but approach it from a different perspective; I am going to do what I can to take care of my body and provide it with what it needs. Exercise can reduce stress, improve our overall health and clear our minds. Try replacing the resolution of ' I want to lose 30 pounds' just resolve to move more doing something you enjoy on a regular basis and reap the rewards of how your body and mind feel. Be patient and the weight loss will happen. Are you resolving to go on a diet? Rather than go on some crazy restrictive diet and cut out foods you enjoy resolve to add foods that are good for you, try adding a vegetable to at least one more meal a day, drink at least 16oz. of water a day. If your not successful every day it's okay, just try again tomorrow.
Try not to make your resolutions so big that it is impossible to see any improvements ie; lose 50 lb.s, run a marathon especially if you are not a runner, you are not going to achieve either of these within the first month and you will get discouraged very quickly.
For today's blog rather than a new workout let's kick off the New Year with a good brisk 2-3 mile walk or run 3-5 days a week, follow it up with 8 oz. of water. Find a ritual that is good for the mind ie; 10-15 minutes, savor your coffee or hot tea in the morning without TV or phone, find some quiet time reading for leisure (no newspaper or social media), consider writing in a journal whatever comes to mind.
My message for today is to be kind to yourself as well as those around you and find comfort in who you are, treat yourself as you would treat a loved one!!
Be Safe, Be Happy, Be Healthy
Sincerely
Ricarda 'Rickie' Alleman
