STOP!!! Bad mouthing your body

Hello there, it has been a couple months since my last post.  I have been busy working on some continuing education training to help me stay fresh and renew my joy in sharing fitness with others. Something has come to my attention that I just feel I need to speak out.

Now that we are in the colder months I have been watching a little more TV than usual which has introduced me once again with some of the crazy body images, fitness/healthy/beauty products. I am not sure why we continue to fall into these trends or beliefs again and again.  Most recently I have heard the trend of "Heroin chic" super thin, unhealthy look and very unrealistic has returned...Why!?!  Another ad showed several women with reasons as to why their body was not what they want it to be with one saying "I am tired of fighting against my body."

That last statement of "fighting against my body", plays over and over in my head. We should not be fighting against our bodies we should be embracing them for what they can and will do every day and working with them to serve us well.  Who makes the decision how a body, man or woman should look?  Every body is different and thankfully so. We need to learn to stop comparing ourselves to anyone whether it be someone you know, an ad, celebrity, that ripped guy at the gym. Every one of us is on a different journey, stage of life or health challenge. Your body and the things it can do daily is amazing from bearing children, carrying children, assisting a loved one in their daily activities, dance, run, walk, lift weights, move furniture, the list goes on.  You should be proud of everything your body can do and what you can teach it to do. Take care of your body, eat healthy, stay active and be proactive in your healthcare. You get one body in this lifetime, enjoy life but be sure to take care of the body in which you live.

So let's be the change, enjoy your body, embrace your body, take care of it but also share that with others.  We need to remind our friends, family, co-workers, children and anyone who will listen. Your body needs to be respected and loved.

Sincerely,
Ricarda 'Rickie' Alleman

Be safe, be happy, be healthy
