Body Confidence, you deserve it

Body Confidence?!?!

So have you heard the latest plastic surgery trend??  Buccal fat removal, have you ever heard of buccal fat, pronounced 'buckle', or buccal pad?  Simply put it is the removal of the fat in your cheeks to get pronounced cheek bones and facial structure.  So if you look in the mirror and suck your cheeks in a little that is the outcome patients are desiring.  Why do we need to find more ways to change our appearance that we are born with, is natural looking and reflects our genetics. Celebrities have been getting the procedure done which unfortunately helps to push it into the media. Once it gets into the media it causes some to feel if he/she, who is already beautiful and famous, went to this extent for this result it must be what I need to be desirable. I am not going to go in to the procedure or list any celebrities who supposedly had it done.

The attempt to change our bodies is not something new. People have been doing things to their bodies for hundreds of years to achieve a look that is deemed perfect or ideal. The corset dates back hundreds of years and at that time women were attempting to create a curvy figure, than the trend moved to more slender bodies and the trend continues to waver back and forth from thin to more strong, athletic bodies.  I am certainly not saying that one is more desirable than the other.  There will always be people who are naturally thin and others who have more of an athletic or curvy body and are all are beautiful.  What I am saying is what can we do as a society to help people embrace their bodies and be grateful for what it is capable of doing. Our goal should be a healthy body however that may look on you.

So when we make those surgical changes to our bodies that is on trend at the moment what happens when that trend makes another turn and introduces yet another procedure? How does that affect individuals mentally and emotionally, do they feel the need to make another change?  It is of course your body and your choice and of course some procedures need to be done for health reasons.  Elective plastic surgery procedures our costly, require healing time, and can sometimes end badly.  If you are considering any procedures to change your appearance, take some time to dive deeper in to why and will the procedure definitely make you happier.

I wish for our younger generations to learn to love their bodies as they are, as long as they are healthy.  To make their bodies the best they can be with a healthy lifestyle, exercise and good nutrition.  Please speak with body positivity to your children, friends, loved ones and yourself.

Sincerely,
Ricarda 'Rickie' Alleman
