You do you...
I don't know if you have noticed but that phrase gets used a lot and it is true. You should always be true to yourself and not transform to suit others. This phrase is also true when it comes to your fitness routine. What works for one person may not be right for you, for a variety of reasons.
First everyone's body and fitness goals are unique and will go through different stages throughout their lifetime.
Second your routine needs to fit your lifestyle, preferences, and physical ability. If you choose something you really do not enjoy you are not going to do it, if it is too hard you will be discouraged or if it does not fit your schedule you will give up or it will feel more like a chore.
You will be the most successful when you choose a routine you enjoy and fits your schedule. You are much more likely to stick with it and achieve your goals. Setting you up for a healthy, active lifestyle with improved physical and mental health.
Whether your friend or co-worker swears by CrossFit and thinks that is the only way to fitness, don't be afraid to give it a try sometimes what looks scary may be the thing you like the most but after giving it a fair amount of time and you just don't like it, that's okay. Keep in mind there are lots of options out their to get active you just need to give it a go. Just remember to always be willing to try new things, you may discover something new to add to your toolbox for variety. Variety in your fitness routine is important, it helps to prevent injury, boredom, and trains muscles differently. Always include strength training and cardio in your fitness regiment, does not need to all be done in the same session just sprinkle throughout your week.
Keep all of the above information in mind if you are setting fitness as your New Year's resolution and be gentle on yourself, if you slip up, no worries you can start again. Refrain from jumping into the deep end by starting at the heaviest weights, full out run if you have not been running. Start gradually and work up, when you are comfortable start working on those short term goals and kick it up a notch.
Sincerely,
